WHAT TO EXPECT IN A WEEKLY SESSION:

Each weekly session is structured to mirror the rhythm of a professional academy environment. A typical session includes:

1. Arrival & Activation

  • Professional arrival standards

  • Light movement, dynamic warm‑up, and ball‑based activation

  • Brief outline of the session theme

2. Technical Block

Focused drills linked to the weekly topic, such as:

  • First‑touch work

  • Passing combinations

  • Dribbling and ball manipulation

  • Position‑specific technical skills

3. Tactical or Unit Work

Small‑group or unit‑based practices, for example:

  • Defending as a unit

  • Midfield rotations

  • Attacking patterns

  • Pressing and transition exercises

4. Match‑Play Coaching

The session finishes with match‑play block designed to replicate real game situations while allowing coaches to guide players in the moment.

This includes:

  • In‑play coaching to reinforce the session theme

  • Real‑time feedback on decision‑making

  • Opportunities to apply technical and tactical learning under pressure

The aim is to help players understand why and when to make certain decisions, not just how to perform the technique.

Coach Mentor - Alex Gibson

Growing up in Warrington, I had the chance to join a Centre of Excellence — but as a late developer, I genuinely felt I’d arrived in football too late.

That environment changed everything for me. It helped me progress quickly, which led to playing high‑school football, captaining my county, and eventually earning money while studying by playing at a semi‑professional level. Experiences like that are exactly why this kind of programme is so important alongside your regular club football.
